Our return to Leopard Hills
I recently, after almost 20 years, had the opportunity to return to the Sabi Sand or the “Sands”, as it is affectionately known, and this time we again visited Leopard Hills. Having worked as a guide in the Sabi Sand in the late 1980’s, it will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the first time I had been on an open vehicle in the African bush, and I will never forget the first time I took guests on a game drive.
Exploring Misava in the Klaserie
The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is big. Very big. In fact, it covers a total of 60 000 hectares of pristine bushveld and shares unfenced boundaries with the Timbavati, Balule and the Kruger National Park. There are 20 commercial lodges within the reserve, and we were fortunate enough to stay at Misava Safari Camp, a 5 star lodge overlooking the Klaserie River.
The wheelchair-friendly Ximuwu
Every now and then you come across a gem where you think “they have not missed a trick”. There exists such a place in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve and it’s an exclusive use lodge by the name of Ximuwu Lodge. Everything about Ximuwu oozes exclusivity.
On arrival it’s plain to see that this is not a conventional lodge.
